A Better City for All of Us.
In embarking on a journey to inform the community about the goals of the City’s General Plan for engaging equitably, championing sustainability, increasing the supply of new homes and advancing mobility and community resources, they needed a firm to help convey this message visually. That’s where CityWorks came in as a subconsultant to WSP to design visually appealing cover designs, page layouts and information graphics. Over the course of two months, we provided the City with two cover page options, designed to convey the City’s message “A Better City for All of Us” by including a backdrop of downtown San Diego, an aerial view of Hillcrest, and an image of a diverse group of children running and playing — signaling the City’s commitment to future generations. These design options incorporated the City’s brand and seal.
For the information graphics, the City wanted to convey the idea of a ‘City of Villages,’ a city with various villages within, such as University City, North Park, Little Italy, etc. Based on the City’s descriptions for different types of “village” densities, our design team developed graphical representations of each typology. This was coupled with narratives and photographs of existing places in San Diego to help readers understand each typology.
